What are Design Plan Assessments?

A design plan assessment is the assessment of a project for compliance against BCA and Premises Standards requirements while it is still in the design process. Some stages of the process that a design plan audit can be undertaken include:

  • Planning & Feasibility Studies
  • Concept Design Drawings
  • Planning Drawings
  • Tender Drawings
  • Construction Drawings
  • Why are Design Plan Assessments important?

Design plan assessments are essential particularly in early stages of projects requiring compliance with the Building code of Australia (BCA) and the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). The earlier a design plan assessment is conducted the sooner potential issues can be identified and rectified reducing potential costly retroactive correction further through the design process or during or after construction. Each project is individual, and some may involve design plan audits at multiple stages.
